Interview With Audio Mac

In November, I was browsing Youtube one night, looking for something to listen to so I could drift off to sleep. I’ve been a fan of ASMR (Auto Sensory Meridian Response) for a while and had quite a few channels to choose from. But then something caught my eye. An ASMR role play which I listened to and that then led me to the fun world of audio role plays.

One channel that was being recommended to me was “AudioMac” or as he was known then “MacaroniMan”. The series was “Your Roommate The Assassin”. It was quite a bit longer than the general roleplays on youtube, which was perfect for me. So I started listening. To say I was hooked is an understatement. From the first episode, this series grabs you by the throat and pulls you in, refusing to let go until you are practically begging for more.

The series tells the story of “Ghost” an assassin who has been keeping his job secret from his roommate, who is the listener and becomes known as “BB”. However, the roommate isn’t in the dark for very long. What follows is an adventure like no other. Covert operations, captures, theft and a will they won’t they that is still driving the fanbase insane. The characterization, plot and twists keep fans of this series hooked. You can also find various memes created by fans on Mac’s Discord server.

I was fortunate enough to be able to interview Mac. Below are the questions posed to him and the answers he provided:

How did you come up with the Roommate Assassin series?

When I was a teenager and still really well versed in anime, there was a show called Full Metal Panic that I just adored. I was such a big fan of the show that I ended up writing a book, very much in the same anime-esque style, loosely based off of the plot from the show. The book itself wasn’t fantastic in anyway, filled with plot-holes and other mistakes any 17 year old would make on their first real novel. I forgot about it for a long time before I started doing these audio role plays I’m doing now. I considered using the plot from the book, but decided on a different setting and situation. So I suppose you could say it’s based off a book that’s based off an anime that I liked as a kid.

How long did it take from the idea to the first episode being released?

Well if you want to count all the time it took me between writing it and then producing an audio role play of it, you could easily say approximately 5 years. But in all honesty, because I didn’t use a script or any edits, I would say I got in the head space about 20 minutes before I recorded with a loose idea of what I wanted to do. So about 20-30 minutes.

Where did the inspiration come for each of the characters?

I sort of took it as I went. The main character, Ghost, was never really intended to be dark and brooding, it just kind of happened. The other character I played, Songbird, was supposed to be a single appearance type of thing originally, but as I went, I liked how it felt. I decided if I’d be playing two characters, they might as well have different voices, and if they have different voices, they might as well have different personalities.

How did you find the voice actors for your series?

I held auditions in my discord server. I’m not interested in seeking out other creators and “collabing”. I think the people that would most appreciate voice acting for the show are people who are fans of it.

How long have you been writing?

Oh, goodness… Well I started writing occasionally when I was about 12 years old, but I didn’t get into legitimate fiction writing and the such until 15, so about 8 years.

What’s your favourite genre to write?

I don’t really have a genre, I guess. I kind of combine everything. Action, adventure, comedy, romance. That’s a lame answer for “I don’t know,” really.

Who is your favourite writer?

I don’t really have time to read these days but I really enjoy reading old books I read when I was a kid in school, so Rick Riordan come to mind, as well as Darren Shan. They influenced me a lot to write when I was younger.

Who is your favourite voice actor?

I’m not really the kind of person that has a favorite voice actor. I’m more of a fan of specific performances, but not everything a certain actor does.

What are your plans for the future of your channel, projects etc?

What I’ve found that I really enjoy is audio drama, and I don’t really care if it gets less clicks than the cliche romantic boyfriend role plays. The future of my channel is going to be what the present is, and that’s original stories with likable characters and immersive episodic story telling.

What’s your favourite part of the creative process?

You know, I like editing the lines together a lot. Feeling all the lines come together like pieces to a puzzle and hearing how well they mesh is truly a fun experience, and I hope to continue to find fun in that for years to come.

If you could voice any character, in any show. What would it be?

I guess I’d have to go with Takasu Ryuuji from Toradora. The only reason I say that is because I know I could do a better job than the guy that did it. Same case with Saito from The Familiar of Zero. Realistically speaking, though. I’d just continue to voice Ghost. He’s probably my favorite character I’ve ever written and acted as.
Mac has some serious talent when it comes to writing and this shows in the audios he has produced. He has various other audios on his Youtube channel which listeners will enjoy. However, I have to say my favourite is Assassin Roommate. I’m excited to see what Mac does in the future. Whatever it is, I’m sure it will be a wild ride.

Interview With Audio Artist, Hank Miller

Hank Mic

While audio roleplays are becoming popular on Youtube. The more erotic themed audios can be found on sites such as Reddit in the subreddit “Gone Wild Audio” and Literotica. More and more people are not only listening to these erotic audios, they are also trying their hand at making them too. The concept is that a male or female will feature in the audio and the listener is the other person involved.

Go on Reddit and you’ll come across an account “wasawaynowimback10”. This account belongs to Hank Miller and he’s become very popular since he started creating audios.

His master list has several genres of erotic audio from the boyfriend experience, to hate/rough fucking for someone who enjoys rougher sex. One thing that’s obvious when you first hear Hank is that it’s a voice you will never forget. He has a low, rumbling voice that will send shivers up the spine and you’ll want to listen to all day, even if it’s reading something as simple as a toaster instruction manual. His voice can be as smooth as a nice whiskey sliding down your throat, or as rough as gravel, depending on what scenario you’re listening to. Hearing this voice whispering naughty things through headphones and resistance is futile.

Hank was lovely enough to let me interview him. Here are the questions and his answers.

What made you start recording audios?

I was fishing around on Reddit and looking for wholesome material and not naked girls. I stumbled across an audio and I didn’t know what it was. I clicked on it and it happened to be a girl that I knew from Reddit. I didn’t know she did this. I listened and thought it was really cool. I didn’t realise you could do erotica or porn as an audio. I called her and asked her about it. We were talking and she said I had the voice to do audios and should find a script and try it. So I did. Almost a dare. I did it and it was ok. Then I did another and it did better. The third one was more elaborate and it did really well. Then I got into imrpov and went from there.

What’s your favourite scenario?

I do whatever I’m in the mood for. So it depends on whatever mood I’m in. If I come home and had a bad say, then I might be in a dark Hank mood. If on the way home and petted a puppy then I would do a BFE. If I got into an argument then it would be hate/rough fucking.

How do you get into the head space to record?

I usually think about it during the day. I know I am going to go home and record an audio. When I get home, I shut everything off and go through the beginning in my head. It’s almost like a switch. Then I have the beginning and I go for it.

Three aspects. What, where and why? Once I have those, then I can start.

Did you expect to become so popular with your audios?

Not at all. I am very surprised by the popularity.

What equipment do you use?

My phone. A Samsung S8.

What are your hopes for the future of your audios?

My plans are to make the stories, audios and quality better. I’d also like to expand and do some asmr audios too. A lot of things in the fire. Website, Discord, Youtube.

Do you listen to any other audio artists?

I sample once in a while.

Would you ever consider collaborating with another audio artist.

Sure. If the right script and collab partner came along.

Is there any scenario you haven’t done that you’re considering for the future?

I’ve done quite a lot of scenarios, I’m not sure there are many I haven’t done. I plan on continuing the Hitchhiker Series. I really enjoy that one.

You have quite a musical past. Aside from rock and country, what other types of music do you listen to?

Everything. I have so much music in my head that I can’t pick a favourite. I listen to everything, from Tom Jones and Five Finger Death Punch.

If you could jam with any musician, who would it be?

Right now, Stevie Ray Vaughan.

What’s your favourite song of all time?

That is an impossible question to answer. It changes by the hour.

What do you enjoy about making audios?

The fact that I can be as naughty as I want without going to jail.

Having been listening to Hank for a couple of months, I joined his Patreon and have enjoyed not only the audios by this talented man. There are stories about his amazing life that will have listeners laughing to the point of tears although some may be shocked at his antics. The truth is, Hank is a down to earth, funny and charming guy who keeps his fans entertained. He also has a vivid imagination and improvisation skills that other artists would kill for.

It’s no surprise that his fan base is growing by the day and listening to his work. You only have to look at the comments on Reddit and his Patreon to see how much his fans adore him and his work. If you are looking for audios that are NSFW (Not Safe For Work) and even a couple that are SFW (Safe For Work), go and listen to Hank. You won’t be disappointed.
